2025年2月15日（土）から2月20日（木）の日程で、東京・麻布十番のパレットギャラリーにてポップアップストア 『Kimono Meets Africa 再創造される着物』を開催します。

このポップアップでは、ケニアで人気を博したSHIFT80のアップサイクル着物の新コレクションを日本初公開。ケニアに溢れかえる古着と、日本の伝統着物とを、ケニアの才能あるデザイナー・職人らと協力し融合させる試みです。

アフリカ最大の古着輸入国ケニアと、日本の美意識・着物文化が交差する、唯一無二のアップサイクルアイテムを展示・販売するポップアップストアです。ぜひお気軽に遊びにきてくださいね！

なぜいまKimono Meets Africa？ 日本で着る機会が減った着物 × ケニアに大量に送られる古着でアップサイクル

ケニアはアフリカ最大の古着輸入国であり、日本を含む世界中から大量の古着が流れ込んでいます。この背景のもと、SHIFT80は日本で着る機会が減った着物と、ケニアで廃棄される運命にある古着を組み合わせることで新たな命を吹き込み、、サステナブルなファッションの新たな可能性を創出することを目指しています。

一点物のアップサイクル着物アイテムに加え、アフリカ難民と共に制作したポーチ・バッグ、南部アフリカ・エスワティニで製作された古紙のアップサイクルピアスなどのアイテムも販売予定。

This pop-up event will showcase SHIFT80’s upcycled kimono collection, which has already gained popularity in Kenya, making its Japan debut. Collaborating with talented Kenyan designers and artisans, SHIFT80 has reimagined traditional kimono and secondhand garments—a fusion of Japanese heritage and African creativity.

Experience one-of-a-kind upcycled fashion, where Kenya, the largest importer of secondhand clothing in Africa, intersects with Japanese aesthetics and kimono culture. Don't miss this unique opportunity to explore and shop exclusive pieces!

Kenya is the largest importer of secondhand clothing in Africa, receiving vast amounts of used garments from Japan and around the world. Meanwhile, traditional kimono in Japan are worn less frequently, with many left unused or discarded.
